What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a natural and common human emotion characterised by feelings of unease, worry, or fear, often in response to perceived threats or stressors. While occasional anxiety is a normal part of life, excessive or prolonged anxiety can become overwhelming and interfere with daily functioning. Symptoms of anxiety may include racing thoughts, restlessness, difficulty concentrating, muscle tension, and trouble sleeping. Anxiety can manifest in various forms, such as generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, or specific phobias. Understanding and acknowledging anxiety is the first step towards managing it effectively, often through techniques such as mindfulness, coaching, cognitive-behavioural therapy, relaxation exercises, and seeking support from mental health professionals when needed.
